Dr Christine Durinx is Managing Director of VIB, a leading European life sciences institute in Flanders, Belgium, with over 2,000 researchers and staff. She leads VIB at the intersection of molecular biology, AI, and technology, driving the integration of AI across research processes and innovation workflows in human and planetary health.

She has initiated major investments in AI and computational biology, including a dedicated research center and a central data core facility to enable data-driven and personalized health approaches.

‍

Previously, she was Executive Director of the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. With a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, she brings experience across academia, industry and research infrastructures, focusing on translating science into societal impact.
